Overdraft protection options

An overdraft occurs when you don’t have enough money available in your account to pay for a transaction. You have options to protect your account form an overdraft when these things happen.

Courtesy Net

Courtesy Net allows you to overdraw your checking account to pay check, debit transactions, Bill Pay, and ACH transactions which would otherwise be rejected or returned due to insufficient funds. Courtesy Net covers transactions up to $500 for a $25 fee per transaction. Courtesy Net is an optional service and is designed for members that are in good standing and meet certain requirements.*

Overdraft Transfer

An overdraft occurs when you overdraw your account to cover a transaction. An overdraft transfer, also known as overdraft protection, is a service that automatically transfers funds from a linked account, like a savings account, to your checking account to cover transactions when you don’t have enough money. There is a $5 fee, assessed once per day. This helps prevent you from paying overdraft fees or having transactions declined. Overdraft Transfer is an optional service and is for members who meet certain requirements.

Courtesy Net vs Overdraft Transfer

  • Courtesy Net – You don’t have the money, but the credit union will cover the transaction up to $500 and charge a $25 fee per transaction.*
  • Overdraft Transfer – You don’t have the money in your checking account, but you do in your savings account. The credit union will automatically transfer the money from your savings to your checking and charge a $5 fee.
This Account is subject to a Variable Rate. The APY may increase or decrease after the account is opened depending on the WSJ Prime Rate. For the current dividend rate and corresponding APY, refer to the deposit rates published on our website https://navigatorcu.org/savings/deposit-rates/. To earn the disclosed Annual Percentage Yield (APY), you must maintain an average daily balance of no less than $1,000.00 and no more than $9,999.99 in your High Yield Checking account. You must also have a direct deposit aggregate of at least $500 each month into any savings, money market, or checking account under the same Navigator Credit Union account number. In addition, you are required to complete 12 debit card point-of-sale or signature purchases (ATM transactions and transfers between accounts do not qualify) that are cleared and posted to your account during the month. Requirements also include receiving your monthly statement electronically. When requirements are met, the average daily balance of no less than $1,000.00 and no more than $9,999.99 earn the APY of the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) Prime Rate on the last day of the month minus 3.75% with a 0.30% floor rate. Average daily balances under $1,000.00 earn 0.00% APY. Average daily balances over $9,999.99 earn 0.00% APY on the portion of the average daily balance over $9,999.99. If you fail to meet the eligibility requirements during any month, you will earn 0.00% APY. Should the WSJ Prime Rate change during a statement cycle, the APY will be adjusted on the last day of the cycle when dividends are calculated. Fees may reduce earnings.
*Under the Courtesy Net option, a $25 overdraft fee will be assessed per presentment of a debit card transaction, ACH transaction, check, or bill pay transaction. You will be charged a fee each time a transaction is presented for payment, even if the same transaction is presented for payment multiple times. Courtesy Net is only permitted on one checking account per membership. The checking account will not become eligible for Courtesy Net until 90 days after the initial deposit to the checking account. Fiduciary accounts including Trust, Estate and Escrow accounts are not eligible for Courtesy Net. You have 30 days to pay your negative balance before you will no longer be considered in good standing with the credit union. We reserve the right not to pay an item, at our discretion. For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if your account is not in good standing or you have previously had an excessive number of overdrafts, also at our discretion. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined and subject to the returned item/insufficient funds fee listed on our Fee Schedule. Overdrafts and fees are based on your available balance, which may be less than your actual balance, depending on pending charges, holds and pledges on your account. Courtesy Net will not cover overdrafts that cause the Checking account to exceed a negative balance of more than $500, including any prior fees assessed. All fees subject to change based on our current Fee Schedule. Additional restrictions may apply. See Account Agreement and Disclosure for more information.
